What is your favorite thing about working in Space Planning?
I most enjoy the daily opportunities to collaborate with countless business partners throughout Ahold Delhaize USA. Sitting close to the center of so many initiatives and changes impacting our stores is exciting and rewarding.
What is the most exciting development you have seen in Space Planning since you started your career?
From my perspective, seeing the role of Space Planning continue to shift from a service provider (like the power company, for example) to a thought partner and more of a center of excellence.
What advice do wish you could give to 25-year-old you?
A few things come to mind.
1 – At every opportunity, be curious about how things “work” outside of your current area. Look to learn, partner, and innovate, growing your sphere of influence within your organization.
2 – Be protective of your life/work balance! Work hard but leave time to play hard!
3 – Get outside of your comfort zone! Take that promotion (or even a lateral move) to an area you’re not comfortable in. Muscles grow best from a tear-down/build-up process. Each time you get outside your comfort zone, you come back stronger.
What do you most want to get out of being a member of the Space Planning Community?
Sharing common experiences with others in this part of the business, but also with those outside of the area, with a common goal to advance Space Planning initiatives. Following this path strengthens not just Space Planning, but those we work with, as well as those we influence and are influenced by.
When you’re not at work, where are your favorite places to be?
My happy places include spending a lot of time with family and friends. I also enjoy traveling to new (and old) places. You’re very likely to find me with a book or on a beach, recharging when necessary.
